Position: Lead Voice & Data Technician

Pay: $28.00 $35.00 per hour (Based on Experience)

TradeSTAR is seeking an experienced Lead Voice & Data Technician to lead the installation, termination, testing, certification, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems for commercial and industrial projects. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in copper and fiber optic cabling, can lead installation crews, and is committed to delivering high-quality network infrastructure installations.
Responsibilities
Lead commercial structured cabling installation projects from rough-in through final commissioning.
Install, terminate, label, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling.
Perform copper certification testing using Fluke test equipment and document results.
Terminate and troubleshoot fiber optic cable using fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and OTDR testing.
Install cable pathways including J-hooks, cable tray, ladder rack, conduit, sleeves, and innerduct.
Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, rack elevations, and telecommunications drawings.
Install and build MDFs, IDFs, server rooms, and telecommunications closets.
Install patch panels, network racks, cabinets, ladder trays, and cable management systems.
Troubleshoot network cabling issues including continuity, attenuation, certification failures, and physical layer faults.
Coordinate daily work with project managers, general contractors, and customer representatives.
Maintain accurate labeling, as-built documentation, and testing records.
Train and mentor junior technicians while ensuring quality workmanship and project efficiency.
Ensure installations comply with ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and customer specifications.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of commercial structured cabling experience.
Experience leading Voice & Data installation crews.
Proficiency installing and terminating CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling.
Experience with Fluke DSX cable certification testers and fiber testing equipment.
Ability to read construction drawings, telecom plans, and wiring schematics.
Strong understanding of ANSI/TIA structured cabling standards.
Experience installing MDF/IDF rooms and network infrastructure.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in commercial construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications
BICSI Technician or Installer Certification.
Fiber optic fusion splicing certification.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
Experience with outside plant (OSP) or backbone fiber installations.
Lift certification.
