Description: Lead Voice & Data Technician
TradeSTAR is currently hiring an experienced Lead Voice & Data Technician for commercial structured cabling and low-voltage projects in the San Antonio area. This position is with one of TradeSTAR s established low-voltage clients supporting commercial construction, infrastructure upgrades, and enterprise network installations.
We are seeking a highly skilled technician with leadership experience, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to oversee structured cabling crews and commercial low-voltage installations from rough-in through final punch.
Job Responsibilities
Lead commercial voice and data installation crews on active job sites
Coordinate daily activities with project managers, superintendents, and other trades
Install, route, support, and terminate structured cabling systems
Oversee installation of:
o Copper voice/data cabling
o Fiber optic backbone cabling
o Wireless access point cabling
o MDF/IDF infrastructure
o Backbone and horizontal cabling systems
Perform and supervise:
o Cat6/Cat6A terminations
o Patch panel installations
o Rack and stack builds
o Fiber terminations and testing
o Cable certification and troubleshooting
Read and interpret:
o Blueprints
o Riser diagrams
o One-line diagrams
o Floor plans
o Cable schedules
Manage cable pathways including conduit, cable tray, ladder rack, and J-hook systems
Ensure installations comply with ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and commercial job site standards
Maintain project documentation, labeling, and as-built information
Perform quality control inspections and oversee testing procedures
Assist with material management, crew productivity, and job site safety
Qualifications
3+ years of commercial structured cabling experience
Previous lead or foreman experience preferred
Strong understanding of voice, data, and fiber optic systems
Experience managing crews on commercial construction projects
Ability to troubleshoot cabling infrastructure and connectivity issues
Experience with cable certification testers and fiber testing equipment preferred
Ability to work independently and lead teams in fast-paced environments
Reliable transportation and industry-standard hand tools required
Compensation & Benefits
$25 $30/hour depending on experience
