Lead Wastewater & Water Systems Operator III

  • Schedule: Full-Time | On-Call Required

Is this you?

  • Experienced in industrial or environmental operations and maintenance (3+ years) with a focus on water and/or wastewater?
  • Holding an active Louisiana Department of Health Wastewater Collection Class III and/or Wastewater Treatment Class III certification?
  • Comfortable operating a belt press and a 3 MGD activated sludge facility?
  • Skilled at troubleshooting pumps, valves, electrical components, and complex process issues?
  • Committed to safety, documentation accuracy, and regulatory compliance?
  • Licensed to drive in Louisiana and confident leading Operators I and II?

What you'll take ownership of

  • Daily operations and maintenance for water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems.
  • Hands-on leadership: mentoring, assigning work, and assisting Operators I & II as needed.
  • Inspection routines: wells, treatment equipment, system components, and facilities.
  • Compliance tasks: sample collection, required lab testing, and precise operational records.
  • Field duties: utility locates; meter reads and re-reads.
  • Repairs: water/sewer lines, pumps, valves, and related mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Vendor/contractor coordination for specialized services.
  • Collection system monitoring, flow issue response, and blockage clearing support.
  • Plant operations including belt press use and preventive maintenance per schedule.
  • Housekeeping and safety: clean, organized sites; strict PPE and policy adherence.
  • Team collaboration and emergency/on-call response.

What you need to succeed

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years in industrial/environmental O&M—preferably water/wastewater—or equivalent education/experience.
  • Active LA Dept. of Health Wastewater Collection Class III and/or Wastewater Treatment Class III certification.
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license.
  • Strong grasp of treatment processes, systems operations, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Mechanical repair aptitude and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and technical procedures.
  • Proven reporting and recordkeeping accuracy.
  • Capability with mathematical calculations required by LA operator certification standards.

Physical realities of the job

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and hands-on work.
  • Routinely lifting/moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Working indoors/outdoors across changing weather.
  • Operating near moving mechanical equipment, electrical components, and other hazards—always with PPE.
  • Noise levels that may occasionally be loud.
