Job Title: Lead Writer

Location: 2300 NE Adams St., Peoria, IL, 61639

Rate of Pay: $87,880/year - $102,000/year

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manage Department Projects and Support Department Goals

o Use Asana, Instagantt, and reporting tools to manage writer projects in the department.

  • Review and approve new project setup.
  • Assign due dates based on project criteria.
  • Review projects weekly to ensure team meets deadlines.

o Oversee Department Goals to completion.

  • Support team goal completion. Utilize Asana and Instagantt.
  • Review team goals to identify potential walls or bottle necks.

o Assign new projects based on project forecast.

  • Use system tools to forecast next assignments for writers.
  • Manage creation and lifecycle of Parts, Service, and Operator Manuals for Komatsu Machinery

o Analyze engineering and field data for new machines and machine updates.

  • Analyze Bills of Materials and Engineering Change Notices.
  • Correct materials based on field notifications.
  • Analyze engineering evaluations for new features.
  • Interview subject matter experts (SME) (Distributors, customers, internal personnel) for content creation.

o Manage new illustrations through approved vendors. Create illustrations as required.

  • Utilize 3D Cad (Creoview), 2D Part Drawings, and 2D Assembly Drawings for accurate data.
  • Use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create and modify illustrations.

o Manage multiple projects through Asana / Instagantt.

  • Manage tasks and deadlines and keep up to date project status.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure projects stay on task.

o Maintain and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all manual types.

  • Manage and resolve Technical Service Inquiries from the field and internally

o Manage Technical Service Inquiries from online field reporting system (SQIS/Salesforce).

  • Research and resolve content issues to completion.
  • Collaborate with customers/SMEs/Komatsu Ltd. to resolve inquiries
  • Manage multiple TSIs to completion.

o Manage Parts Change Requests (PCR) from the field or Parts Technical team.

  • Research and resolve content issues using data analysis tools and parts technical team.
  • Correct errors in source material and collaborate with Distribution team as required.
  • Maintain Internal and External Procedures and Standards

o Support Workflow Management and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the department.

  • Create, revise, maintain workflows for department responsibilities.
  • Manage creation, revision, maintenance of standard operating procedures for department responsibilities.
  • Manage multiple TSIs to completion.

o Review and improve workflow management with external departments.

  • Manage writer / engineering relationships through meeting reviews.
  • Work with engineering management to improve markup reviews times, quality of meetings, and writer proficiency.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement

o Develop new solutions through technology or systems to improve speed, accuracy, and quality of content creation and delivery.

o Support department goals and initiatives.

o Other tasks as required by management.

Telecommuting: permitted within normal commuting distance of the worksite 1 day/week.

Employees Supervised: three (3), Tech Writer, Technical Writer, Senior Tech Writer

Travel: up to 10% domestic travel and up to 5% international travel required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent in Technical Communication, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent, and five (5) years of progressively responsible, post baccalaureate, related engineering experience.

Skill Requirements: Additionally, the applicant must have:

  • Experience analyzing engineering data and engineering drawings to identify serviceability;
  • Experience with XML/Structured Authoring Tools (Framemaker, OxygenXML, Arbortext);
  • Experience with ERP and BOM Management;
  • Experience with Technical Writing;
  • Experience with Project Management; and
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).
