Job Description Summary:
The Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning (ZIEL) is a world
class experiential learning center with a vision to transform learning,
collaboration, and care. Our mission is to impact critical healthcare
problems by co-creating simulation-based learning systems and solutions
for challenges that face individuals and teams of current and future
healthcare providers at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC)
and The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS).
The Learning and Design Strategist is the face of ZIEL and central to
developing a collegial trusted relationship with faculty and instructors
to guide them through the full lifecycle of simulation design,
implementation, and impact. As a member of the ZIEL Learning and Design
Team, this role is responsible for program success of simulation
training for students, post graduate trainees, and healthcare providers.
This is accomplished by leveraging skills in learning and simulation
science, project management, facilitation, instructing, coaching,
problem solving and process improvement with various stakeholders.

Job Description:
The Learning and Design Strategist is a multi-faceted role with varied
responsibilities. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategist for Simulation Design, Implementation, and Impact
- Co-create with subject matter experts through all steps of
simulation design, implementation, and impact; from needs assessment
to program evaluation, guided by evidence-based practices of
simulation, learning, and performance sciences.
- Ensure alignment of programs with ZIEL Compass (vision, mission, and
strategy).
- Facilitate simulation design with the end in mind through curiosity
and diagnosis of ill-defined and/or recalcitrant problems by
applying the ZIEL problem-based design thinking approach to create
measurable impact on education and care outcomes.
- Conduct a needs assessment to ensure that simulation is used when,
and in a manner that, it contributes value to other training and
process improvement strategies used by KUMC, TUKHS, and the
constituent programs.
- Write learning goals and objectives that align with educational
milestones, professional benchmarks, and organizational quality
standards.
- Ensure simulation activities reflect clinical best practices with an
appropriate level of plausibility and fidelity.
- Lead subject matter experts to describe expert performance of the
task to be practiced and then deconstruct the whole task' into
component knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will ultimately be
used to design and evaluate training.
- Translate clinical content in ways understood by non-clinical team
project members to achieve shared project goals.
- Advise on creation of simulation delivery materials, including but
not limited to pre-learning content, presentations, handouts,
instructor guides, cognitive aids, and post-event survey
questionnaire.
- Demonstrate a warm, welcoming, and safe learning environment for all
who attend events within ZIEL.
Co-Creator and Instructional Support
- Champion the success of co-creators in initial and ongoing
development of their skills as simulation designers, faculty, and
members of the scientific community.
Provide at-elbow coaching for faculty as instructor, embedded simulation
person, and debriefer roles.
Model exemplary practices as a simulation instructor and debriefer.
Instruct courses relevant to clinical scope, as appropriate, to maintain
skills and course awareness.
Support co-creators in sharing their insights locally and nationally
through professional organizations and scientific community outlets in
the form of presentations, publications, reports, social media, etc
