Position Information

The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center seeks a dynamic, creative, and highly motivated Learning and Enrichment Program Coordinator to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate educational, social, and enrichment opportunities that promote lifelong learning, healthy aging, social connection, independence, and overall well-being for older adults throughout New Hanover County.

This position plans and delivers classes, workshops, presentations, technology instruction, special events, and community engagement opportunities while cultivating partnerships with community organizations, instructors, and subject matter experts to expand programming and connect older adults with valuable information and services.

Essential Duties Include:

Program Development & Coordination

  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate educational, social, cultural, recreational, and enrichment programs that support healthy aging and lifelong learning.
  • Plan and facilitate classes, workshops, lectures, technology training, demonstrations, special events, and community presentations that reflect the interests and needs of older adults.
  • Coordinate technology education and digital literacy programs that help older adults confidently use devices, safely access online resources, and avoid scams and fraud.
  • Develop and implement social engagement, cultural, resource, advocacy, and recognition events that encourage participation build community connections, and reduce social isolation.
  • Assist with evidence-based health promotion programs, wellness initiatives, and other strategic aging initiatives.

Community Partnerships & Outreach

  • Recruit, coordinate, and support instructors, presenters, volunteers, and community partners to provide high-quality programming.
  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, healthcare providers, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to expand programming and community resources.
  • Represent the Senior Resource Center at community meetings, outreach events, and partner organizations to promote programs and services.

Program Administration & Evaluation

  • Monitor program participation, evaluate participant feedback and outcomes, prepare reports, maintain records, manage assigned budgets, and recommend program improvements.
  • Support departmental initiatives, including the Master Aging Plan, Age-Friendly Community initiatives, strategic goals, and other organizational priorities.

Other Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Hours:

Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Thursday evenings until 7:00 pm will be required as needed. Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Salary Information: The hiring range for this position is $46,360 - $78,811 annually, plus a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Human Services, Education, Communications, Recreation, Gerontology, Public Administration, or a closely related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience developing, coordinating, or managing community, educational, recreational, or human services programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required:

Valid drivers license from any state and good driving record at the time of application.

Valid North Carolina drivers license with acceptable driving record by the first day of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with older adults.
  • Knowledge of aging services and community resources.
  • Experience developing partnerships with community organizations.
  • Experience planning virtual programming and utilizing technology for program delivery.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and best practices related to adult learning, healthy aging, community engagement, and program development.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate multiple programs and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, public speaking, facilitation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, volunteers, community partners, elected officials, and County staff.
  • Ability to analyze participation data, evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and technology used for program planning, communication, registration, virtual programming, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, innovation, integrity, accountability, stewardship, equity, and outstanding public service.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office, community, and recreational environment and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and transporting program materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support programs, meetings, and special events. Local travel throughout New Hanover County is required.
