The Learning Center Food Service Lead is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the YMCA Learning Center Food Program, ensuring the safe preparation, packaging, distribution, and documentation of meals in compliance with USDA, state, and YMCA regulations. This position provides leadership for meal production, oversees food safety and inventory practices, coordinates Rural Non-Congregate meal sites, Weekend Meals, and Teen Meals, and serves as a key resource for staff and community partners.

The Learning Center Food Service Lead understands that access to nutritious food is a critical community need and approaches every interaction with professionalism, compassion, and respect. This position works collaboratively with Learning Center staff, food service personnel, and community partners to ensure quality service while supporting children, families, and community members experiencing food insecurity.

  • Coordinates the daily operations of the Learning Center Food Program, including meal preparation, packaging, distribution, and documentation.
  • Ensures compliance with USDA, state licensing, health department, and YMCA food service regulations.
  • Oversees food safety and sanitation practices, ensuring all food is stored, prepared, transported, and served according to established standards.
  • Coordinates Rural Non-Congregate meal sites, Weekend Meals, Teen Meals, and other food distribution programs.
  • Maintains accurate meal counts, production records, inventories, monitoring reports, and other required documentation.
  • Orders, receives, and manages food and kitchen supplies while monitoring inventory levels.
  • Assists with menu implementation and food production planning to meet program requirements.
  • Leads and supports Food Service staff, delivery personnel, and volunteers by providing training, guidance, and daily direction.
  • Coordinates delivery schedules and serves as a backup driver for meal deliveries as needed.
  • Maintains kitchen, storage areas, vehicles, and equipment in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition.
  • Conducts required site monitoring and compliance reviews for food program locations.
  • Communicates regularly with the Learning Center Food Program Director regarding program operations, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies and follows YMCA emergency procedures, including administering first aid when certified and necessary.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with staff, families, school personnel, vendors, and community partners.
  • Assists with organizing and delivering program equipment, including refrigerators, cabinets, and other materials as assigned.
  • Supports continuous quality improvement by identifying operational efficiencies and recommending process improvements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the YMCA Food Program.
  • At least 20 years old AND
  • High School Diploma or GED AND
  • A valid Driver License and Insurance approved Driving Record

And must also complete:

  • Within 90 days of hire: CPR/First Aid Certification for Adult, Child, and Pediatrics
