Description
Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) invites applications for the position of Learning Commons Tutoring Instructional Assistant. This part-time position assist students with tutoring and academic problem solving.
Located in rural northwestern Illinois along the scenic Rock River, SVCC is situated between the cities of Dixon and Sterling, placing it just one hour from Rockford and the Quad Cities, and two hours west of Chicago. Examples of Duties
Tutor students in academic subject areas.
Assist students in the development of study skills and learning strategies.
At the discretion of tutoring and/or disability support supervisors, provide individual academic support to students with disabilities.
Assist students in using assistive technology, including the use of software and equipment aids for students with disabilities.
Identify and refer students to appropriate instructional and supplementary materials.
Contribute to maintaining current, accurate student tutoring tracking records.
Maintain and act as custodian of tutoring supplies and equipment.
Supervise the Learning Commons Tutoring Center in the absence of the supervisor.
Attend annual tutor training, supervision sessions, tutor meetings, and annual evaluation sessions with the supervisor as requested.
Under the discretion of the tutoring coordinator:
Assist with tours of the Learning Commons.
Assist with visits to classrooms to explain the services of the Learning Commons Tutoring Center.
Assist with or conduct review sessions.
Assume all other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Functions
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in an appropriate field and two years of experience related to academic support services.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and students required.
Science background preferred.

Personal Interaction
Frequent contact is made with all levels of College personnel, students, faculty, the general public, and outside organizations in relation to specific departmental duties and services.
Supervision Exercised
Functional supervision is exercised over tutors and the learning commons tutoring center in the absence of the supervisor.
