LEARNING CONSULTANT – Special Education and Evaluation Services Program

Classification:  Licensed 190 day calendar

Reports to:  Special Education and Evaluation Services Director

FLSA Status:  Exempt 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Teachers teaching teachers, assessing students and supporting parents: this is the role of the learning consultant. This position plays an essential role in supporting the special education teachers in our districts by providing coaching, consultation, and guidance in the all aspects of educating our most impacted students with special needs.  As a member of a multi-disciplinary evaluation team, this position provides critical input, knowledge and experience in the evaluation process of students who are struggling to access their education. Learning consultants are pivotal on this dynamic team of professionals working in collaboration with school psychologists, speech/language pathologists and interpreters throughout the entire process of the educational system. 

QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Master’s Degree or higher.

2.       Valid Oregon Teaching License with Special Education: Generalist endorsement or equivalent.

3.       Demonstrated at least five years of successful experience in special education.

4.       Demonstrated successful experience in standardized administration, scoring, interpretation and written reporting of academic assessment results.

5.       Such alternatives to certain above qualifications may apply as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and/or Board of Directors.

GENERAL INFORMATION

This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.

3.       Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA.

4.       Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.

5.       Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.

6.       Present self and LBL in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.

7.       Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.

8.       Maintain regular attendance at work.  Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.

9.       Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.

10.    Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds.

11.    Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 

This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills and duties associated with this position.  The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary.

1.       Conduct individual academic evaluations and understand the educational implications and application of cognitive testing.

2.       Provide comprehensive written reports of observations, assessment results and recommendations.

3.       Understand, interpret and offer guidance in the gathering of pre-referral, progress monitoring and multi-tiered systems of support data from the classroom setting in academic and behavioral needs.

4.       Consult with school personnel regarding varied individual student program needs.

5.       Understand and offer guidance in navigating state and federal compliance in IDEA, 504 Accommodation and Title I mandates.

6.       Assist new teachers to the field through district and regional supports in specific content guidance for all areas of educational eligibility.

7.       Participate in ongoing training opportunities to keep abreast of educational trends, educational technology, and specialty areas within special education, specifically assessment tools and instructional methods and resources.

8.       Provide support with differentiation strategies of academic and behavioral interventions in response to interpretation of RtI and MTSS data.

9.       Design and participate in offering individual or group training for component district personnel.
