Title: Learning & Development Specialist Reports to: Director of Training and Development FLSA Status: Exempt Personnel Supervised: None POSITION SUMMARY:
The Learning & Development Specialist – Clinical is responsible for designing, facilitating, coordinating, and evaluating clinical onboarding, competency validation, continuing education, and clinical skill development for clinical staff (with a primary focus on LPNs, CMAs, and select RNs) across Central Florida Health Care. This position serves as a clinical education partner to Nursing Leadership, Clinicians, Operations, and Human Resources by ensuring consistent clinical practices, evidence-based training, and standardized onboarding across all CFHC locations. The Specialist develops engaging instructor-led, simulation-based, and technology-enhanced learning experiences while supporting organizational initiatives, regulatory compliance, workflow optimization, and electronic health record adoption. This role works collaboratively with the Director of Training & Development and the Clinical Training Team to ensure consistency, standardization, and excellence in clinical education across the organization. The ideal candidate combines strong clinical expertise with a passion for adult education, coaching, and continuous improvement. Strong working knowledge of Athena and experience coaching and validating clinical staff through observation are essential. Pediatric clinical experience is highly desirable. MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS: - Graduate of an accredited Nursing School (LPN or RN).
- Current Florida Nursing License (LPN or RN).
- Bachelor’s degree – Nursing, Healthcare related or Business, preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of nursing experience in an ambulatory, primary care, community health, family practice, pediatric, or similar outpatient healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement clinical education programs and learning strategies.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles.
- Exceptional communication abilities both written and oral.
- Strong facilitation skills in delivering training preferably within the health care field.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite of products, Learning Management Systems (preferably Relias) and other training technologies, a plus.
- Experience developing eLearning, blended learning, instructional videos, and digital learning resources preferred.
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Athena Health, preferred.
- CPR Certification required.
- Experience working with both adult and pediatric patient populations preferred
RESPONSIBILTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following: - Assist in continual development and improvement of clinical training strategy and solutions for nursing staff.
- Assess the learning needs of the clinical nursing staff company wide, new and seasoned.
- Follow up with all new clinical nursing employees throughout the on boarding and initial training processes to assist in assessing additional training needs and opportunities.
- Collaborate with Leadership to assess training gaps, organizational development needs for training and staff development to enhance the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the company.
- Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Ancillary Service Manager and Chief Medical Officer to develop standard protocols and techniques to maintain, modify, and implement training/testing of the clinical processes.
- Develop, update, and maintain training materials including facilitator guides, participant materials, competency assessments, communication plans, manuals, and related documentation.
- Identify, train and re-educate clinical employees when deficiencies are uncovered.
- Develop and provide training for clinical processes, new equipment, policies, workflows, and system implementations or updates.
- Manage and continuously improve clinical education programs, workflows, and resources to support standardized clinical practice across the organization.
- Develop, administer, and maintain competency assessments, return demonstrations, skills validations, clinical performance evaluations, and related documentation under the direction of the Director of Training and Development.
- Collaborate with the Director, Learning & Development to identify training and development solutions to support the needs of the company.
- Assist with developing and maintaining training elements (i.e. department specific manuals, communication plans, facilitator guides, training documentation, training assessments, etc.).
- Facilitate our LMS system (Relias) to ensure relevant course offerings, tracking enrollments and course completions with an emphasis for all Clinical staff.
- Design, develop, facilitate, and evaluate engaging instructor-led classroom, simulation-based, hands-on, and eLearning experiences that improve clinical competency, confidence, patient safety, and organizational performance.
- Coordinate and maintain standardized onboarding pathways, orientation, nesting, competency validation, and transition-to-practice activities for new clinical employees.
- Monitor learner progress throughout onboarding, orientation, and nesting, partnering with clinic leadership to ensure successful transition into independent practice.
- Evaluate training effectiveness using competency data, learner feedback, operational outcomes, and emerging instructional technologies to continuously improve learning programs.
- Support and maintain simulation lab environment for use in learning opportunities for training, evaluation, and assessment of new and existing clinical staff.
- Regular travel between CFHC locations within Polk, Hardee, and Highlands Counties is required.
- Conduct CPR certification and renewal courses at CFHC training locations and clinics.
- Provide coaching, individualized remediation plans, and follow-up education for employees requiring additional clinical support or when competency gaps are identified.
- Conduct clinic observations to identify workflow opportunities, reinforce standardized practices, and assess competency.
- Communicate learner progress, competency outcomes, and identified training needs to clinic leadership and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives by identifying educational opportunities that improve patient care, workflow consistency, and clinical outcomes.
