What You Will Do

Leverage your organizational, customer service, and program coordination skills to support workforce development and learning initiatives for one of the world's most innovative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. As part of the New Employee Training and Workforce Development Group (WMS-1), you will play a key role in supporting and delivering workforce development programs for the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP).

In this role, you will serve as a Workforce Development Learning Specialist responsible for coordinating, implementing, and facilitating workforce development programs that support employee growth, professional development, and organizational capability within ALDWP. You will partner with program stakeholders, subject matter experts, managers, and employees to help identify learning needs, support training initiatives, and enhance workforce readiness across a diverse and evolving organization.

The successful candidate will be able to operate in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment where attention to detail, responsiveness, initiative, and professionalism are critical. Responsibilities may include supporting and delivering instructor-led learning programs, coordinating logistics and communications, maintaining training records and metrics, managing curriculum and content updates, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts that strengthen workforce development outcomes across ALDWP.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide end-to-end facilitation and implementation for assigned program cohorts, including delivering and facilitating learning content to diverse audiences, conducting program orientations, providing schedule guidance, and ensuring timely resolution of employee questions.
  • Support new hire onboarding activities by helping new employees gain a foundational understanding of the organization and providing guidance and support to ensure a positive and effective onboarding experience within ALDWP.
  • Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts to support workforce development initiatives, coordinate program operations, and ensure effective program delivery.
  • Ensure deliverables, milestones, and program commitments are met with a high level of accuracy, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and coordinate complex scheduling across multiple stakeholders, calendars, and training resources.
  • Perform Learning Management System administration, including course registration, course management, credit issuance, and reporting.
  • Analyze data from multiple systems to support decision-making, reporting, and customer support efforts.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, user experience, and overall program effectiveness.


While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

What You Need

  • Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    • Working knowledge of business operations in a structured environment, including familiarity with one or more of the following: formality of operations, compliance practices, configuration management, training and qualification, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Computer Skills/Business Systems:
    • Proficiency with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe).
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to use LANL business systems (e.g., Oracle, UTrain, etc.).
    • Strong ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and complex calendars.
  • Critical Thinking:
    • Ability to research issues, evaluate alternatives, and recommend practical solutions to support operational effectiveness and quality assurance.
  • Communication:
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Customer Service:
    • Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service, including the ability to provide clear guidance, manage expectations, and maintain professionalism in high-demand or time-sensitive situations.


Desired Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with workforce development programs, employee learning and development initiatives, and institutional training services in a complex organizational environment.
  • Experience working with educational programs, training organizations, or academic institutions.
  • Knowledge of documentation and records management practices, including quality assurance and document control.
  • Familiarity with regulatory or compliance-driven environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to new systems, and take initiative.
  • Positive, proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work onsite full-time in a collaborative team environment.


Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
