    Role Description The Learning Specialist (Special Education Teacher) is a full-time, on-site role based at UPREP Schools in Canton, MI. This position is responsible for planning and delivering specialized instruction to middle school students with disabilities, ensuring services align with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and school-wide academic goals. Daily responsibilities include co-teaching in general education classrooms, providing small-group and one-on-one support, modifying curriculum and assessments, and implementing evidence-based interventions. The Learning Specialist will collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in IEP meetings and progress reviews. The role also involves monitoring student growth, using data to adjust instruction, and contributing to a positive, inclusive school climate that supports all learners.

    Qualifications

    • \n
    • Strong instructional skills in Teaching and Middle School education, including lesson planning, classroom management, and differentiation.
    • \n
    • Expertise in Special Education and working with students with Disabilities, including understanding IEPs, accommodations, and legally compliant practices.
    • \n
    • Effective Communication skills with students, families, colleagues, and support staff, both in writing and verbally.
    • \n
    • State certification or licensure in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain), with endorsement appropriate for middle school grades.
    • \n
    • Experience in urban or diverse school settings and commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive practices.
    • \n
    • Ability to use assessment data and progress monitoring tools to guide instructional decisions and interventions.
    • \n
    • Proficiency with educational technology and tools that support accessibility and individualized learning.
    • \n
    • Collaborative mindset, professionalism, and willingness to participate in ongoing training and school-wide initiatives.
