Job Description

This position is responsible for managing all leave benefits for employees covered under State, Federal, and contractual leave provisions such as FMLA, paid and unpaid leaves of absence, Paid Parental Leave and Worker’s Compensation. Position will be working closely with the institution’s Safety Administrator on Worker’s Compensation claims, serve as the designated representative for Unemployment Insurance, and the ADA Coordinator for student employees. Employee will have access to labor relations’ information as defined under M.S. 13.37, subdivision 1, and paragraph c.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer employee leave benefits for all Minneapolis College employees by ensuring leave benefits are applied correctly in compliance with Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) policies, state and federal leave laws and regulations
  • Provide employee and labor relations advising and expertise for employees, supervisors and managers to ensure understanding of and compliance with employment laws and regulations, college and Minnesota State policies, and bargaining agreements and personnel plans. Serve as a resource to management team for labor relations information, as defined in M.S. 13.37, used in collective bargaining.
  • Oversee and manage Unemployment Insurance Claims and Responses
  • Manage Worker’s Compensation processes for employees to ensure leaves and benefits are followed up with to in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the ADA Coordinator on accommodation requests for student employees.
  • Work closely with Student Employment Office (SEO) related to leave benefits on the administration of Minnesota Paid Leave benefits for student employees.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable partner

Salary Range:

$24.84- $34.84 per hour/ $51,866 - 72,746 annually

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in Human Resources, leave management, and/or benefits administration
  • Knowledge of employment leave laws such as FMLA, FLSA, ACA, ADA and/or Workers' Compensation
  • Experience with HR Information Systems and MS Office platforms in order to track and implement business processes
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in order to carry out assignments with minimal supervision
  • Experience and ability to maintain confidentiality, communicating with tact, professionalism, and discretion
  • Detail-oriented skills in order to review and interpret information, apply leave policies and procedures accurately and consistently
  • Ability to create and maintain partnerships amongst internal and external departments, agencies, and individuals
  • Skills in both oral and written communication to relay information that is sensitive and personal in person, phone, and in writing and explain complex processes and procedures in plain language.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Experience with Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system and/or State of Minnesota
  • Knowledge and applied experience of Minnesota Paid Leave (MPL)
  • Experience with Workday
