The Department of Childhood/Early Childhood Education in the School of Education invites applications for a full-time Lecturer I position to begin in August 2027.

The successful candidate will teach in-person and online early childhood courses and serve as the department's undergraduate academic advisement coordinator for all early childhood and childhood education majors. The faculty member will display commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse array of students, colleagues, and external partners.

The Department is committed to providing future educators with unique learning opportunities that merge coursework from our programs with early practice teaching experiences in our Professional Development School (PDS) consortium. Our programs prepare teachers to create child-centered, inquiry-based, and developmentally appropriate learning environments and to advocate for children's equitable educational opportunities from birth through grade six. Major Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in the early childhood and childhood programs in both face-to-face and online environments
  • Serve as the department's undergraduate academic advisement coordinator
  • Observe practicum and student teachers
  • Work in professional development schools and build partnerships with schools and/or childcare centers
  • Demonstrate knowledge of issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Participate in the affairs of the department, School of Education, and University, including but not limited to committee work and curriculum development
  • Participate in ongoing data collection and analysis to productively participate in program review and accreditation

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

  • Reports to the academic department chair
  • Works under the supervision of the dean
  • Works closely with department faculty and staff within the department
  • Additional working relationships with faculty and staff within the School of Education and in other college departments

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in early childhood education, early childhood special education, elementary education, or a closely related field
  • Knowledge of early childhood or childhood curriculum and best practices for infants, toddlers, preschool, and/or elementary school children
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in education
  • Five years of successful experience teaching in early childhood or elementary school settings within the last five years
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in early childhood education or teacher preparation
  • Experience teaching in a variety of formats (e.g., face-to-face and online)
  • Experience advising or mentoring students in academic and career development
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology and integrate it into instruction
  • Familiarity with early childhood education standards

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Organizational and time management skills
