Job Summary/Basic Functions

The University of Mary Washington is seeking a Nursing faculty member who holds a terminal degree (PhD, EdD, or DNP) and maintains national certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP). This position involves teaching, mentoring, and guiding students within the NP program, with a focus on advanced practice nursing across specialty areas, including family practice, acute care, pediatrics, and adult-gerontology.

Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring substantial Nurse Practitioner (NP) clinical experience, possess doctoral-level preparation, a current national certification, and a genuine commitment to student success and the advancement of graduate nursing education.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years NP clinical practice

Required Education:

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP, EdD or PhD) from an accredited institution

Required Licensure:

  • Active, unencumbered RN and APRN license; current national NP certification (AANP or ANCC) in specialty area

Additional Considerations:

  • Active clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in a specialty area relevant to the program

  • Experience with simulation-based education, high-fidelity patient simulation, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), or standardized patient programs

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, clinical preceptors, community partners, and institutional leadership
