Lecturer of Theatre
Frostburg State University, Department of Music, Theatre and Dance, seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer of Theatre position in the area of Design to begin Fall 2026. Theatre and Dance at FSU offers comprehensive classes and an engaging production season; students participate in real-life experiences that foster in-depth knowledge about the art and business of the theatre profession. The department encourages and celebrates cultural and stylistic diversity throughout the program. Productions and classes take place in our Performing Arts Center, which houses three theatres, a costume shop, scene shop, electrics lab, rehearsal space, dressing rooms, and classrooms. The program offers a BS/BA in Theatre, and minors in Theatre and Dance. We are excited to offer a newly established Musical Theatre minor beginning Fall 2026.
Responsibilities: Teach introductory theatre courses as well as introductory and specialized courses in one or more fields of design, including Costume Design, Set Design, Lighting Design and Sound Design. (as per your specialty) Design and mentor student designers, and work side-by-side with production teams. Assist with recruiting and mentoring students in the Design and Technology Track. Faculty members at FSU are expected to actively participate in the University's student-learning-assessment program.
The successful candidate must be able to train and supervise student crews and participate in departmental assessment safely and effectively. Ability to work collegially with a production team and commitment to continued work in the profession are expected. We are especially interested in a candidate who can teach broadly within the discipline, has excellent written and oral communication skills, and is prepared to work toward a shared vision for the department. Preferred qualifications include experience in more than one theatrical design area.
Minimum Qualifications: MFA in Design (e.g., set, costume, lighting, etc.) with demonstrated interest in other design disciplines. College level teaching and/or professional experience. An understanding of performing arts in the context of a liberal arts education. Application materials submitted must provide link to online portfolio in cover letter or curriculum vita.
