Job Title: Lecturer/Special Lecturer of Chinese Language and Culture Job Description Summary:

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications for the position of Lecturer of Chinese Language and Culture. We seek a dynamic and committed educator to teach undergraduate in Chinese language (elementary through advanced levels) and Chinese culture, including literature, film, history, and contemporary issues. The ideal candidate will have a passion for student-centered teaching and demonstrate a commitment to inclusive and intercultural pedagogies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach at least one Chinese language and/or culture course per semester.
  • Develop syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with departmental learning goals.
  • Use communicative and immersive methods to promote language proficiency and cultural literacy.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learners.
  • Integrate authentic materials (films, music, news media, literature) to enhance cultural understanding.
  • Participate in curriculum development and contribute to departmental initiatives.
  • Support student engagement through cultural events, language tables, study abroad advising, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Literature, Language Education, or a closely related field.

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Chinese and English.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching Chinese at the university or secondary level.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching both language and content courses (e.g., calligraphy, cinema, cultural studies).

  • Familiarity with ACTFL standards, proficiency-based instruction, and digital language learning tools.

  • Evidence of inclusive pedagogy and commitment to equity in the classroom.
