This grant-funded, full-time position will work between 9:00am and 6:00pm, Mondays through Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm with evening and weekend hours as needed by the department.

Regular on-campus presence is expected for all KCC employees. Any flexible and/or hybrid work schedules are subject for review, approval, and/or change based on the needs of the College.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Legacy Scholars (LS) Success Coach will work with Legacy Scholars-eligible students as the primary contact for this group from enrollment to graduation. The LS Success Coach will assist this population in navigating the enrollment process and providing encouragement, support and monitoring through to graduation. Please note that this is a temporary grant-funded position through June 2027, with the possibility of extension at the conclusion of the grant-funded project.

Physical Demands

The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and, may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (At time of application, please upload unofficial transcripts showing degree and date of conferral.)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience, such as advising, mentoring, coaching, tutoring, etc.
  • Knowledge of K-12 and/or higher education systems
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience working with a diverse population
  • Ability to independently travel around the community and to partner schools
  • Ability to positively and professionally engage with community stakeholders, on and off campus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and other similar software

Preferred but not Required

  • Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • Working knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Knowledge of KCC institutional process, programs, and practices
  • Experience with student recruitment strategies and/or retention programs
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Battle Creek Public Schools and Lakeview school district

Proposed Salary

According to the Kellogg Community College Hay Administrative Compensation program, the 2026-2027 annual salary range for a Professional 1 position, $50, 776 to $59,734 to start.

Job Duties

Essential Function RETENTION Description

  • Facilitate student programming that provides individual opportunities to interact and create meaningful points of contact across campus and local community.
  • Create and facilitate special programming to build community and connections with Legacy Scholar students.
  • Use Starfish Student Success Tracking System to monitor student status and use appropriate interventions to increase retention and graduation rates of Legacy Scholars.
  • Provide individual opportunities to interact and create a point of contact for this population of students.

Essential Function RECRUITMENT & OUTREACH Description

  • Coordinate and attend on- and off-campus events intended to promote the Legacy Scholars program to prospective students, potential referral sources, and community partners.
  • Work with partnering schools to provide targeted and meaningful outreach opportunities to create the KCC connection.
  • Assist Legacy Scholar students with navigating and completing the enrollment process, including Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion.
  • Assist students with the Legacy Scholars scholarship application.

Essential Function REPORTING & FINANCIAL AID Description

  • Award, manage, and monitor scholarship eligibility for the Legacy Scholars.
  • Assist students with understanding college financial aid including the Legacy Scholars scholarship and FAFSA process.
  • Prepare reports to external and internal stakeholders on the specific data elements determined by the Legacy Scholars work group in comparison to all KCC students.
  • Maintain up-to-date student demographic enrollment data.
