SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Legal and Grant Writing Specialist is responsible for grant development and legal coordination. This position independently researches, evaluates and determines funding opportunities, develops and prepares grant proposals, manages grant submissions and reporting requirements and maintains accurate grant documentation. The position also serves as a liaison between the CEO, COO, internal departments and legal advisors to coordinate and oversee contracts, agreements and other legal matters, while conducting research and providing analysis and recommendations related to legal, regulatory and compliance needs. Success in this position requires strong writing, research, analytical, organizational and communication skills, along with independent judgment, discretion and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Leads research and identifies potential government, corporate, foundation and private funding opportunities that align with the organization’s mission, programs and financial needs. Conducts analytical and prospective research on foundations, corporations, government agencies and other funding sources to identify and evaluate potential grant opportunities. Develops, writes and submits grant proposals, letters of inquiry, applications and supporting documents in response to funding opportunities, RFPs and other solicitations. Prepares proposals for both unrestricted operating support and restricted program/project funding. Oversees the grant application process from opportunity identification through submission, including gathering required organizational, programmatic and financial information. Collaborates with internal departments to gather accurate information needed for grant applications, proposals, budgets and reports. Prepares timely and accurate grant reports and other required documentation for government, corporate, foundation and other funders. Manages a grant calendar and tracking system to monitor funding opportunities, application deadlines, award dates, reporting requirements and other important grant-related activities. Maintains accurate and current grant records in electronic databases and files. Evaluates and monitors grant requirements and reporting obligations to help ensure compliance with funder requirements. Establishes and maintains specialized knowledge of the organization’s mission, programs, services, history, community impact and financial needs in order to effectively communicate the organization’s work to prospective funders. Assists with donor communications, fundraising projects, prospect research and other development activities as requested. Prepares and coordinates materials for donor and funder meetings, presentations and other external communications. Cultivates and maintains positive working relationships with funders, community partners and other external contacts. Serves as a primary administrative liaison between the executive leadership and the organization’s legal advisors regarding contracts, agreements and other legal documents. Coordinates and facilitates the collection and organization of information and supporting documentation needed for legal review. Conducts an analytical review of contracts, agreements and related documents for completeness and required information before submitting them for legal review. Oversees contracts, agreements, legal requests, renewals and related action items to ensure timely follow-up and completion. Manages and maintains organized and confidential records of contracts, agreements, legal correspondence and other related documentation. Conducts research and provides analysis to Executive Leadership regarding legal, regulatory, compliance and organizational matters as requested. Monitors and assesses deadlines associated with contracts, agreements, renewals, notices and other legal or compliance-related matters and communicate upcoming deadlines to appropriate parties. Maintains confidentiality when handling contracts, legal matters, financial information and other sensitive organizational information. Identifies and appropriately escalates legal questions, concerns or issues to the CEO, COO or designated legal advisor. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, English, Writing or a related field. 2. Paralegal Certificate preferred. 3.
