Role

Under general supervision, performs professional legal work of moderate difficulty by assisting attorneys throughout various phases of the legal process

Major Duties, Responsibilities

  • Formats, types, and prepares legal documents, correspondence, and memoranda from drafts and instructions.
  • Files legal documents with courts and other appropriate entities, obtaining necessary hearing dates.
  • Maintains attorney calendars by scheduling court appearances, meetings, and deadlines.
  • Assists clients, courts, and the general public via telephone and in person, providing information and support.
  • Processes, copies, scans, and logs incoming and outgoing case documents.
  • Assists attorneys with trial and court preparation by organizing documents, evidence, and exhibits.
  • Reviews documents for completeness and accuracy, analyzing as needed to determine next steps in case management.
  • Maintains accurate case data and compiles information for statistical reports.
  • E-files legal documents through electronic case management and filing systems.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Associate's degree in criminal justice, or related field.

Experience:

A minimum of two (2) years of general office, legal secretary, or administrative support experience. An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and

education may substitute for the degree on a year-per-year basis.

Additional Requirements:

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.

Other Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Legal terminology, legal forms, and document preparation.
  • Pertinent legal databases and rules of criminal procedure.
  • Clerical and office practices and procedures. Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Research techniques and report writing.
  • Current Microsoft Office software.
  • Filing and recordkeeping systems.

Work Environment

The work environment is associated with an office setting. The work area is adequately lit, heated or cooled and ventilated.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and computer screens and adequate hearing and speech ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Capable of frequent repetitive movements of arms, fingers, and wrists, and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
