A highly respected and established insurance defense law firm in Kansas City is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join its growing team. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced attorneys and legal professionals in a collaborative, professional environment dedicated to delivering exceptional client service.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, experience handling medical records and billing documentation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Request, obtain, organize, and maintain medical records, billing records, and other case-related documentation.
  • Review and analyze medical records and medical billing statements for completeness, accuracy, and relevance to litigation matters.
  • Prepare medical record and billing summaries for attorney review.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers, insurance carriers, experts, and third-party vendors to obtain necessary documentation.
  • Assist attorneys with case preparation, discovery responses, document production, and trial preparation.
  • Maintain electronic and physical case files, ensuring all records are accurately filed and updated.
  • Track deadlines and manage case calendars.
  • Draft correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents as assigned.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, medical providers, and other parties.
  • Support attorneys with administrative and litigation-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of legal assistant experience, preferably in insurance defense, personal injury, workers' compensation, or medical-related litigation.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering, reviewing, and organizing medical records and billing documentation.
  • Strong understanding of medical billing terminology, coding, and analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies within records and invoices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience with Clio case management software is highly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an insurance defense law firm.
  • Experience preparing medical chronologies, billing summaries, and litigation support documents.
  • Familiarity with litigation procedures and court filing requirements.
  • Associate degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent professional experience.
