As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.DutiesAt the full performance level, you will support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) by providing a variety of legal assistance and office support services. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties include:Examining, preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents such as complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, and libels.Proofreading and cite checking legal briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents.Assisting attorneys in trial preparation by conducting non-complex research of litigation, statutes, regulations and court cases.Assembling exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents.Assembling and organizing files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository.Maintaining calendar of assigned active cases.Tracking filing, hearing, and trial dates, and scheduling conferences and interviews.Arranging travel by preparing itinerary and securing transportation and hotel reservations.Producing a variety of written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications.Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. This position is considered a career ladder opportunity, with a full performance level of GS-07. If selected at a lower grade level, you may be non‑competitively promoted to the next grade level at the discretion of your supervisor. Promotion is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.RequirementsConditions of employment:You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.Initial appointment is conditioned upon satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable background investigation.You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.Probationary period of one year may be required.You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.QualificationsGS‑5: To be eligible at the GS‑5 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑4 level; or four years of education above the high school level; or a combination of both. Specialized experience includes reviewing documents with legal implications for accuracy and completeness, typing and formatting correspondence, maintaining files, and obtaining needed information from reference sources. Education beyond the first 60 semester hours may be used to meet the specialized experience requirement, with 30 semester hours beyond the second year equating to 6 months of experience.GS‑6: To be eligible at the GS‑6 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑5 level, including reviewing legal documents for factual completeness, assembling information for hearings or trials, researching legal sources, and using software to produce legal reports.GS‑7: To be eligible at the GS‑7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑6 level, including preparing trial support documents, verifying citations, assisting with discovery and trial preparation, and using software applications to produce reports and courtroom presentations.Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors is required; a typing test may be required.Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): Eligible displaced Federal employees may receive selection priority if the vacancy is within ICTAP eligibility, you apply under the instructions, and you are well‑qualified.
