Position DetailsPosition Types: 1L, 2L, 3L, full and part-time law students for Spring/Summer/FallNumber of Openings: 2-3 per SemesterCompensation: All internships and externships are unpaid, but RMvlc can provide placement opportunities for students with other funding opportunities, such as public service grants.Reports to: Assigned Staff Attorney with additional supervision by other RMvlc staffAbout RMvlcRocky Mountain Victim Law Center (RMvlc) is a non‑profit law firm that provides free legal services to victims of crime in Colorado. RMvlc's mission is to elevate victims' voices, champion their rights, and transform the systems impacting them.ProgramsVictim Rights Legal Services (VRLS) – RMvlc represents victims of crime in criminal cases to ensure their rights are upheld under the Colorado Victim Rights Act (VRA). This includes providing legal information, advocacy, and representation in criminal cases to assist with things like privacy protection, asserting the right to be present and heard, restitution, and post‑sentencing support.Legal Information Network of Colorado (LINC) – Provides wrap‑around legal services to victims of crime to address a myriad of victimization‑related legal issues, such as protection orders, lease breaks, replevin, debt collection, name changes under seal, anti‑SLAPP, declarations of death, and other general civil issues. LINC provides legal information, legal advice and guidance, and direct representation.Title IX – Provides support and representation for victims and survivors of gender‑based violence in schools who are seeking the enforcement of their rights through the Title IX process, including in K‑12 and higher education schools. RMvlc provides information on the Title IX process, advocates for the implementation of supportive measures, accommodations, and other remedies in schools, and represents victims during school‑based administrative procedures.Additional ServicesRMvlc also provides technical assistance and training to service providers on victim legal issues and providing victim‑centered and trauma‑informed services, and participates in collaborative efforts to improve the landscape of victim legal rights and services in Colorado.Internship DetailsInterns/Externs have the opportunity to work on projects across all of RMvlc's programs, and to work with all attorneys and non‑attorneys on staff. Projects are often focused on research and writing, including drafting memos on novel legal issues, assisting with the drafting of motions, briefs, and case filings, and more.
