Kilpatrick, a large international law firm, is seeking a Legal Practice Specialist for our Trusts & Estates team in our Corporate Department in our Chicago, IL office. This position will be part of our team of attorneys, paralegals and support staff providing a high level of service to both internal and external clients. The firm has a strong dedication to its employees, values, and commitment to the community.As a member of a legal practice support team, the Legal Practice Specialist is responsible for coordinating the work of team members, providing support to multiple timekeepers including Partners, Counsel, Associates, Team Attorneys and Patent Agents. This position both coordinates and provides advanced legal and administrative support requiring in-depth knowledge of legal practice processes.The Legal Practice Specialist is also expected to provide support as needed to other teams and attorneys when the need arises. This position works very closely with other Legal Practice Specialists and Legal Practice Coordinators to provide enhanced legal administrative support coverage and to balance the tasks and assignments among the team members.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSManage case workflow and case supportPrioritize, coordinate, and manage work assignments, working very closely with the team, to meet the support needs of the timekeepersUtilize available firm resources, including the Resource Center, Research and Information Services, Marketing, Records, Mail and Copy Services, New Business Intake and FinanceProvide quality control and deadline managementInitiate and monitor docketing with CompuLaw system and monitor trial calendarsAssist other support members on the team to complete timekeeper requestsResearch facts, court rules, and case lawDraft pleadings, file court documentsCreate, revise, transcribe, format and edit pleadings, legal documents, briefs and correspondence to requested specificationsAssist in the preparation of motionsPrepare Table of Authority and Table of ContentsCoordinate logistics and prepare documents for depositions, mediations and arbitrationsProofread and redline documents, correspondence and memoranda to ensure accuracy and quality control of copy, grammar, spelling, and punctuationPrepare binders and hard copy materials as requestedManage mailings, client contacts and update appropriate databasesPrepare reports, PowerPoint presentations, tables and Excel documents as requestedAssist with calendar coordination as needed, including availability of attendees and conference rooms, meeting notification and reminders, and preparation of meeting materialsCoordinate travel arrangements, including air, hotel, and car plans for timekeeper off‑site meetings and events as neededProcess expense reimbursements and credit card statement reconciliations in accounting systemOpen new clients and matters following New Business Intake and Records Departments' procedures as neededPerform routine filing, photocopying, scanning, faxing, compiling and distributing of documentsKNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIREDBachelor's degree and/or Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferredMinimum of five years of experience supporting attorneys in estate planning and trust administration in a law firm settingAbility to work with complex, heavily formatted documents and revise documents from transcriptionProficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), DocuSign, and in docketing software (Compulaw, preferred)Well versed in legal terminology, processes and definitions and of all phases of discovery and trialExtensive knowledge of available legal resources and reference materialsAbility to work with a variety of software and to quickly learn new programs such as Relativity, Concordance, Lexis/Nexis, e‑mail and internetAbility to work on a team while displaying excellent client service acumen and supporting multiple legal professionalsAbility to accept multiple assignments, work on a team to complete the assignments, and coordinate various resources as neededExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsExcellent service orientation and teamwork skillsAbility to work in a fast‑paced environment with tight deadlinesStrong organizational skills with the ability to effectively time‑manage, prioritize, and complete simultaneous assignmentsAbility to meet the demands of trial workAbility to read and understand legal documentsExcellent attention to detail with the ability to draft, format, and proofread legal documentsMaintain confidentiality of client informationAbility to work with limited supervisionADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree (preferred)Experience filing in federal, state, local and appellate courts (required)Experience with Innova (preferred)Experience with IManage (preferred)Experience working with court reporters and videographers (preferred)Experience with bankruptcy litigation (preferred)Experience filing in courts outside of Texas, especially Arizona, California and Louisiana (preferred)10 years: Working in a law firm in a legal support role or professional services role supporting multiple professionals (required)Certified Legal Assistant (preferred)BENEFITSThis is a full‑time, regular position with a multi‑faceted health benefits package including medical, dental, and vision.
