Job Summary
This position is assigned to the Personnel Division and involves assisting attorneys with legal research and all aspects of litigation support. This includes an emphasis on discovery, such as initial disclosures, drafting and responding to requests for production, interrogatories, and requests for admission, and gathering/organizing relevant records. The position will also be involved in administrative hearing, arbitration or trial preparation, including the preparation of exhibits, contacting witnesses, assisting with document preparation, and assistance during trial. This position does not have any direct supervision responsibilities.
Essential Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 3 years of experience in a legal environment in which direct support was provided to two or more attorneys that involved conducting legal research, reviewing and formatting legal documents, coordinating calendaring, and maintaining records. Must possess a valid state driver's license at the time of appointment.
Preferred Education: Preference to candidates who possess specialized education, training, or certification in paralegal studies, criminal justice, and or law from an accredited institution.
Preferred Experience: Preference to those with recent litigation and/or government service experience. Working knowledge of rules of civil and appellate procedure, evidence, and local court rules preferred.
Job Duties
This Legal Researcher will also assist deputies in research and writing of memorandums, briefs, motions, etc. pertaining to a wide variety of issues including but not limited to condemnation law, personal injury lawsuits, and legislative research, etc. Reporting to Chief Deputy Attorney General this unclassified position is responsible for researching various legal issues drafting pleadings, maintaining electronic files, gathering, and organizing discovery documents, and all other matters as assigned by the Deputy Attorney Generals. The preferred candidate will also have experience in preparing for and assisting counsel at trial. This position will have no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Skills Required: Must possess strong written and verbal communication, planning, prioritizing, and executing timelines without supervision. Must exhibit professionalism, organization, self-motivation, punctuality, and leadership skills.

Ability to read printed materials and computer screen; to hear and speak to communicate in person and virtually and over the telephone; to speak in clear and understandable manner.
