    Legal Specialist / Advisor

    Organization: COCAS (Commission on Culture and Society) & ME Living Inc.
    Location: Georgia (Hiram base, hybrid/remote options available)
    Job Type: Part-Time or Full-Time

    About Us

    At COCAS & ME Living, we provide housing, therapy, case management, and reentry support to help individuals and families rebuild after domestic violence, homelessness, incarceration, and substance abuse recovery.

    We are seeking a knowledgeable and mission-driven Legal Specialist/Advisor to ensure our organization stays compliant, manages contracts effectively, and connects clients to the legal resources they need for a successful future.

    Position Summary

    The Legal Specialist/Advisor will handle organizational legal compliance, contracts, and policy oversight while also serving as a liaison to connect clients with external legal aid. This role ensures both the organization and its clients are legally protected and supported.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Draft, review, and maintain contracts, MOUs, and partnership agreements.

    • Ensure organizational compliance with state and federal laws governing nonprofits, housing, and healthcare billing.

    • Provide guidance on policies, procedures, and risk management.

    • Support HR with compliance matters related to hiring and employment law.

    • Assist with client referrals to legal aid services for housing, family law, and reentry issues.

    • Stay updated on changes in Georgia law that may impact operations or clients.

    • Work closely with leadership on legal strategy and risk management.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong understanding of Georgia nonprofit, housing, and healthcare law.

    • Excellent contract review and negotiation skills.

    • Ability to explain complex legal matters in simple terms.

    • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.

    • High ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.

    Qualifications

    • Juris Doctor (JD) or Paralegal Certification required.

    • Licensed attorney in Georgia preferred (or eligibility to practice).

    • 2+ years of legal or compliance experience in nonprofit, housing, or healthcare settings preferred.

    • Experience working with community-based organizations is a plus.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Pay: $23 - $40 per hour (based on experience & licensure).

    • Flexible hybrid/remote schedule.

    • Opportunities to advance into General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer roles as the organization expands.
