    Summary of Position:

    As a Legal Specialist, you will manage complex, high-risk accounts involving bankruptcies, deceased members, levies, garnishments, vehicle repossessions, and collateral recovery. You will review loan accounts, negotiate settlements, coordinate with attorneys, trustees, and vendors, and make informed decisions that protect both our members and the credit union.

    This role is ideal for someone who uses sound independent judgment, communicates effectively, maintains thorough documentation, and enjoys resolving complex, time-sensitive situations.

    The successful candidate should have following skills/qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in business, finance or law preferred
    • 3+ years of experience in collections, legal recovery, or repossession services
    • Expert understanding of FDCPA, bankruptcy laws and repossession regulations
    • Strong communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
    • Experience working with legal professionals, trustees, vendors and financial systems
    • Ability to analyze complex cases and take timely, compliant actions
    • Detail-oriented, resourceful, and comfortable working independently on time-sensitive matters

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage bankruptcy cases and deceased member accounts from beginning to end
    • File and track legal documents, including Proofs of Claim, reaffirmation agreements, levies, and garnishments
    • Coordinate repossessions, auction pricing, and collateral recovery with third-party vendors
    • Determine collateral disposition strategies and charge-off readiness
    • Partner with legal counsel and Compliance to ensure actions meet regulatory requirements
    • Guide Collections Specialists on legal procedures and best practices
    • Prepare monthly reports related to charge-offs, legal filings, and recovery efforts
    • Maintain accurate records to support audits and ongoing compliance

    Physical Requirements
