Legislative & Governmental Affairs CoordinatorPay Grade: 617Location: RemoteVacancy AnnouncementNature Of The WorkOffice Environment WC - 8810Brief DescriptionThe purpose of this position is to develop and maintain relationships with customers, elected officials, community organizations, and municipalities for the Brazos River Authority (BRA). Responsibilities include assisting the Legislative & Governmental Affairs (LGA) Manager with government and public affairs by assisting with the development of BRA legislative strategies; developing and maintaining good working relationships with local elected officials and decision makers; and communicating BRA priorities with local and state elected officials to help implement BRA legislative strategies. This is accomplished by creating general correspondences; staying abreast of BRA programs, issues, and state planning efforts; performing customer outreach; attending and speaking at public meetings; corresponding with local, state, and federal agencies; coordinating communication strategies with the LGA Manager and the Public Information Officer; maintaining a positive relationship with media representatives and the public; gathering intelligence about a variety of issues including problems, business opportunities, and issues of interest and sharing that information with the appropriate individual at the BRA; coordinating with BRA staff on project development strategies and offering local and legislative expertise; acting as a liaison between the BRA and the local basin stakeholders; scheduling, planning, and participating in outside meetings on behalf of the BRA; providing reports to management; working with outside consultants; interacting with other employees and the public; and any other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsResiding within a 50-mile radius of The Texas State CapitolValid Texas Class C Driver's License and a Good Driving RecordPreferred:Minimum three years' experience in local/regional/state government and public relationsBachelors Degree (in related field) - Completed course requirements to earn a Bachelor's degree in the field related to the position and is expected to utilize this level of education during the work day to the benefit of the organization.Key CompetenciesInvesting time and energy into understanding the evolving nature of their role within the organization, and developing the skills, behaviors, procedures, and perspectives to be successful...Creating honest, trusting, and successful working relationships with others (inside and outside the organization) by consistently demonstrating competence and reliability in job performance, and representing what is best about the organization through demonstrated principles, actions, and communications...Working with others to share expertise and achieve outcomes that benefit the organization; stepping in to fill necessary roles that others are unable or unwilling to do; demonstrating strong communication skills to others on the team through active listening, summarizing, facilitating and "bridge building"...Representing the organization to outsiders; participating in civic activities as the organization`s representative, presenting the organization`s position in difficult, issue-related areas and providing information to others/outside associations that enhances the organization`s profile in the community.Staying motivated even when faced with inevitable delays, setbacks, policy shifts and disappointment.Identifying and evaluating unique ways to improve the organization (cost reductions, use of resources, policies/procedures, products); generating useful new ideas, approaches or techniques.STARTING SALARY RANGE:Min: $88,386 to $114,459 annual salary.
