Job Summary
The Level (Hammer) Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment used to level steel cores and related metal components. This role includes precision measurement, hammering and straightening operations, inspection of finished parts, and maintaining production quality standards in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Production

Set up, operate, and tend machines used to straighten and level steel cores

Adjust machine settings including tension, speed, and alignment based on specifications

Read and follow work orders, technical drawings, and production instructions

Load and unload materials into machines safely and efficiently

Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as needed during production
Inspection & Quality Control

Measure finished workpieces using dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision tools

Inspect parts for defects such as surface damage, chipped edges, or dimensional issues

Verify conformance to specifications and tolerances
-
Identify and report defective materials or quality concerns to supervisor
Production Support & Documentation

Record production data such as run-out, tension, and job details into tracking systems (ShopTrak/Syteline)

Enter job start and completion information accurately

Maintain accurate job order documentation as required

Communicate production issues or adjustments with supervisors
Maintenance & Work Area Upkeep

Perform basic machine maintenance (oil checks, cleaning, minor upkeep)

Maintain a clean and organized work area

Inspect tools and equipment before use and report issues promptly
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred (not required)

Prior manufacturing, machine operation, or metalworking experience preferred

Ability to read work orders and basic technical drawings

Basic computer/data entry skills

Experience with measuring tools preferred
