Position: Facilities Engineer

Location: Palmdale, CA

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Facilities Engineer II with strong construction estimating experience to support the planning, budgeting, and execution of complex infrastructure projects. In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams including project management, engineering, procurement, and construction to develop accurate cost estimates and drive cost control across high-technology facility projects.

Responsibilities

Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates across multiple construction disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialized technical facilities.

Analyze drawings, specifications, and BIM models to develop accurate scope definitions, assumptions, and cost projections.

Build and maintain estimating templates, cost databases, and historical benchmarks for high-precision construction environments.

Collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to clarify requirements and identify constructability considerations.

Develop bid packages, solicit and evaluate subcontractor proposals, and perform bid leveling and post-bid analysis.

Conduct value engineering and cost optimization activities throughout project phases.

Support change order reviews and perform cost impact analysis to ensure budget alignment.

Contribute to risk assessments, contingency planning, and cost reporting for project stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with applicable construction standards, internal policies, and government regulations where required.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years of construction estimating experience or equivalent professional experience (Certified Construction Estimator preferred).

2-4 years of experience estimating for large-scale, high-tech, or government-related construction projects.

Experience working with AI-enabled estimating tools or advanced estimating technologies.

Proficiency in industry-standard estimating software such as Sage Estimating, WinEst, or ProEst, along with strong skills in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools (e.g., Power BI).

Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, codes, and standards (e.g., AIA, ASCE).

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and BIM models.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex cost data to diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting construction projects within aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.

Familiarity with government contracting requirements and cost accounting practices.

Experience working in cross-functional and matrixed project environments.
