Golf has a way of keeping people humble. One shot lands exactly where it was intended, and the next disappears into a place where no reasonable person would think to look. For student-athletes, those moments offer lessons in patience, decision-making, and how to move forward after a difficult shot.

As the Lakeside High School Head Golf Coach, you will work with students who may arrive with years of experience and others who are still learning which club to use, and why yelling "fore" should happen before everyone starts ducking. Effective instruction is paramount, and so is creating a team where students feel welcome, supported, and comfortable learning from mistakes. Progress will look different for every golfer, and sometimes success really is getting through a round with the same number of golf balls you started with.

We are looking for a coach who knows the game, values positive relationships, and understands that success is not measured by a scorecard alone. The right person will help students develop confidence, patience, personal responsibility, and respect for themselves, their teammates, their competitors, and the course. If you can teach the fundamentals, keep students steady after a rough hole, and appreciate a sport where the smallest score earns the biggest celebration, we would love to hear from you.

Salary: The salary range for the position is Min. $3,905 to Max. $6,035. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Coaches Agreement unless documentation of experience is received in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Nature and Scope of Position

The Lakeside High School Head Golf Coach is responsible for the instruction, supervision, organization, and development of student-athletes participating in the high school golf program. The position leads practices and competitions, supports student safety and eligibility, manages team operations and equipment, and builds a program grounded in growth, sportsmanship, personal responsibility, and respect.

Primary Job Functions

• Lead the Lakeside High School golf program.
• Plan and conduct organized, developmentally appropriate, and safe practices.
• Provide instruction in golf fundamentals, swing development, short-game skills, putting, course management, rules, etiquette, conditioning, and competition preparation.
• Adapt instruction to support student-athletes with different levels of experience and ability.
• Prepare student-athletes for competition while promoting steady growth, sound decision-making, and respect for the game.
• Establish clear team expectations and maintain appropriate, consistent, and respectful discipline.
• Promote accountability, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and other assigned team activities.
• Make appropriate coaching and lineup decisions based on student readiness, performance, safety, program expectations, and applicable competition rules.
• Communicate participation expectations, schedules, team rules, golf-course expectations, and eligibility requirements to student-athletes and families.
• Monitor student eligibility and support student-athletes in meeting academic, attendance, conduct, and participation expectations.
• Prioritize student safety and follow District procedures concerning injuries, concussion management, sudden cardiac arrest awareness, emergency response, weather conditions, and the reporting of concerns.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and model professional, ethical, and respectful conduct.
• Follow applicable WIAA, league, District, school, athletic-department, golf-course, and competition rules and procedures.
• Maintain required certifications and complete all required District and WIAA training.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director regarding schedules, transportation, practice locations, competitions, program needs, and student concerns.
• Oversee assistant coaches and promote consistent expectations throughout the program.
• Maintain team records and assist with uniforms, equipment, inventory, facility or course use, transportation coordination, and other program operations.
• Protect District property and appropriately use and care for golf-course facilities, equipment, and other assigned resources.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, coaching staff, officials, school personnel, golf-course representatives, community partners, and administration.
• Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

• At least 21 years of age, as required by WIAA for a head coach.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification before the start of the season.
• Ability to meet Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint-based background-check requirements.
• Ability to complete required WIAA coaching education, rules clinics, safety training, and District-directed training.
• Knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, etiquette, course management, training practices, and safe instructional techniques.
• Ability to plan and conduct organized practices and provide appropriate supervision of student-athletes.
• Ability to instruct, motivate, supervise, and communicate effectively with high school-aged students.
• Ability to meet the scheduling, travel, and attendance responsibilities of the position.
• Commitment to student safety, positive relationships, sportsmanship, professional boundaries, and equitable treatment of students.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience participating in or coaching golf at the high school, collegiate, club, or comparable level.
• Experience working with high school-aged students.
• Demonstrated ability to teach golf skills to students with varying levels of experience.
• Knowledge of competition preparation, lineup management, golf-course procedures, and team operations.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and instruct developing student-athletes.
• A student-centered approach that promotes confidence, patience, personal responsibility, resilience, and sportsmanship.
• Ability to develop character and positive lifelong habits through athletics.
• Experience leading or contributing to a safe, organized, competitive, and inclusive athletic program.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, coaches, school staff, officials, golf-course representatives, and administration.
