Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in Library Science or related program from an ALA accredited graduate school. Two years of professional experience as a librarian are required.

Recruitment Notes

This position works in the Miami-Dade Public Library Systems Collection Development and Technical Services Department at the Main Library (101 W. Flagler St., Miami, FL 33130). This position reports to the departments Library Operations Manager. The Collection Development and Technical Services Department selects, processes, catalogs, and pays for physical and digital materials for the library system.

This position supervises the departments cataloging and processing units while overseeing systemwide material cataloging and processing. Responsibilities include supervising and training staff while directing and organizing workflow. The role performs original and copy cataloging in multiple languages and formats, imports records into the librarys Polaris ILS database, and ensures quality control and maintenance for bibliographic, item, serial, holdings, and authority records. The incumbent will apply AACR2, RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal System Classification, NACO, OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards, MARC 21, and additional standards to daily cataloging and processing operations.

The role will advise administration on cataloging and processing matters, develop cataloging and processing specifications, adhere to cataloging and processing policies and procedures, and collaborate with cross-functional departments. The role will maintain positive vendor relationships through regular communication, collaboration, and troubleshooting. The role will use computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, MarcEdit, SQL, OCLC Connexion, and OCLC WorldShare to perform daily tasks, resolve issues, generate reports, and address vendor discrepancies. The role uses working knowledge of the cataloging modules within the Polaris ILS database or equivalent ILS databases.
