The Richmond City Justice Center Services Division is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Librarian. The work location is the Richmond City Justice Center.
The Librarian is charged with responsibility for the overall operation of the inmate library.
The Librarian must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science and three (3) years of experience as a librarian. Should be able to demonstrate competencies in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook. The preferred candidate will have experience as a librarian in a criminal justice environment.
Position is open until filled and the position is at-will.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Must maintain the Library in accordance with the Minimum Standards for Local Richmond City Justice Centers and Lock-ups and the Richmond Sheriff Office Standard Operating Procedures.
Responsible for ensuring that the Library is maintained and stocked with current periodicals and books. The library must have a minimum of 200 books and 100 magazines on hand at all times.
Acts as a resource person for inmates needing assistance in checking out library materials, books and completing letters and forms.
Maintains an accurate and up-to-date log of all visits to any POD areas in need of library services.
Responsible for maintaining the computerized inmate check out/ return system. Ensures that overdue notices are given to inmates in a timely manner.
Prepares a monthly report to be submitted to the Major of Services detailing how many patrons visited the library, number of books checked out, number of books on hand and how many books were purchased and the money expended.
Acts as the Richmond City Justice Center Historian by maintaining a scrapbook concerning topics and articles about the Richmond Sheriff’s Office.
Responsible for maintaining and accounting for an operating budget of $500.00 per month with an expense report and receipt to be submitted to Administration Assistant to the Sheriff at the end of each month.
Explaining new policies and procedures to the inmate population and the general public on a monthly basis.
Initiates daily attendance sheets.
Responsible for reviewing and authorizing the eligibility of pre-trial offenders who need time to use the libraries “law” materials to prepare for their upcoming trials and appeals.
Carries out any or all other duties as directed by the Major of Services, Sheriff or his or her designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Library Science
Three (3) years of experience as a librarian
Preferred will have experience as a librarian in a criminal justice environment
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
