Representative Job Duties

  • Manage electronic resources, including online databases, e-books, streaming media, and internet resources.
  • Coordinate the evaluation, acquisition, marketing and maintenance of electronic resources.
  • Train staff and patrons on the usage of electronic resources.
  • Monitor and analyze usage statistics for all electronic resources.
  • Function as liaison between the Library's Adult Services and Technology Divisions.
  • Serve as library representative on local library consortia committees.
  • Serve as division representative for library technology committees.
  • Responsible for electronic and print collection development.
  • Develop and monitor budget for areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in formulating policy and procedures.
  • Provide Reference and Reader's Advisory services at public service desks.
  • Plan and organize programs and presentations for library patrons.
  • Create digital signage for the division to promote programs.
  • Act as Librarian-in-Charge as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements - As Determined By the City Of Southfield

  • Masters degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited university.
  • One-year full time professional library experience.
  • Proactive, public service attitude, along with ability to interact and work effectively with patrons and staff.
  • Experience with technology, especially tablets, e-readers, smartphones and other devices used with the library's digital services. Possess knowledge of online information resources, downloadable media, computers and software programs.
  • Effective written communication skills and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Experience with electronic resources preferred.
  • Experience in supervision and training of staff desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources, and an awareness of new developments and trends in public libraries.

Each step of the process must be passed before the applicant will be moved to the next step. Family Medical Leave Act worked up to 1250 hours or one year. Can take off time to care for a medical emergency for themselves or immediate family members for up to 12 weeks unpaid. Absences approved by BASIC or FMLA vendor.

FSA & Dependent Care

Flexible Spending Accounts and Dependent care through TASC are pre-tax funds that are used to cover certain out-of-pocket medical expenses and childcare costs. A total dollar amount is elected, and a debit card is sent to you to pay for incurred expenses.

Pre-tax funds are deducted bi-weekly to cover the cost of the total amount you have elected. There is an annual election limit of $3,300 for 2025.
