Technical Services Supervisor

Manages day-to-day operations of a branch library location within the Manatee County Library System or manages a specific work section at Central Library. Ensures effective and efficient delivery of traditional and innovative library services, as applicableto area of assignment. Assigns work and delegates responsibilities to staff and monitors progress to ensure goals are met and high-quality customer service is maintained.

The work environment may include exposure to high noise levels while performing certain essential job functions. The position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance, with or without reasonable accommodation. The role involves sitting for extended periods while working on a computer. Able to push book truck weighing up to 30 pounds and shelve books. May be assigned to any Manatee County Public Library System location. Regularly required to work other than normal business hours.

Essential Functions

Manages technical services and integrated library systems for the Manatee County Public Library System. Configures and manages all aspects of the operations of the Integrated Library System (ILS) including maintaining ILS databases and records, functions, products, upgrades, and new releases. Optimizes functionality to improve staff workflow and public user experience. Coordinates instruction of various systems and resources. Ensures systems serving library customers are first priority. Trains library staff on new and enhanced technologies while analyzing system data to generate reports and statistics Supervises collection development, acquisitions, materials processing, and cataloging. Manages and trains a staff of seven full-time librarians. Works with library administration to develop plans and goals for technology in support of library services. Researches and evaluates new technology. Updates and maintains the library's technology plan. Monitors technology and collection materials budgets. Works to position the library to understand and capitalize on new technological developments. Serves as liaison between the library staff, NSD Business Systems Support Manager, and the Manatee County Information Technology Department. Serves as liaison with system vendors. Attends and participates in vendors user group meetings to stay apprised of developments.

Performs other related duties as assigned, including participation in emergency or disaster response activities, as required and consistent with the employee's qualifications, essential job functions, and appliable federal and Florida law.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in library science from a university or college accredited by the American Library Association. Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a library system. Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience, which can include supervision of volunteers. Valid driver license required, with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications for this position.

Additional Qualifications

Two or more years of experience administering an integrated library system in addition to five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a library system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Able to resolve difficult problems and situations. Excellent knowledge of modern principles and practices of library science and of library organization, procedures, policies, aims, and services. Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties. Excellent knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties, including Integrated Library System (ILS) and related library technology applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including public presentation skills, in order to interact professionally and effectively with staff, management, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to work with clientele from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and educational levels.
