Duties

Manteno Elementary School is seeking applications for a Librarian/Interventionist. The ideal candidate will provide assistance to the Title I Reading Teacher and Intervention Specialists in the daily instruction of students in grades K-4. They will also work under the direct supervision of a certified staff member to assist in the media center.

  • Support student learning by helping students locate and effectively use library resources, instructional materials, technology, and digital information while promoting independent research and learning skills.
  • Maintain a welcoming and engaging library environment by assisting students individually and in small groups, reinforcing academic skills, and encouraging reading, learning, and the use of instructional technology.
  • Manage daily library operations, including circulation desk functions, circulation records, educational material preparation and distribution, and compliance with copyright laws.
  • Develop and maintain library collections and resources by assisting with material selection, managing e-books and electronic resources, weeding outdated materials, creating displays and exhibits, and maintaining library equipment such as Chromebooks.
  • Stay current with library and educational best practices by pursuing professional development, integrating emerging technologies, and collaborating with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to expand access to resources and services.
  • Provide literacy and mathematics instruction and intervention support to Pre-K through Grade 4 students through individual, small-group, and remote learning settings, utilizing Google Classroom, Google Meet, and other supplemental learning resources.
  • Support early literacy development by preparing instructional materials, implementing designated lessons and activities, and applying effective teaching methods and strategies under the guidance of the Reading Specialist.
  • Monitor student participation and progress, communicate observations to the Reading Specialist, and follow established instructional schedules and intervention plans to support student achievement.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality of student, family, and staff information
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers and school staff
  • Support students' social, emotional, and behavioral growth
  • Uphold school policies, procedures, and educational standards
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by Administration

Qualifications

  • Paraprofessional License/Certification registered with the Regional Office of Education in Kankakee County
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills for successful performance
  • Experience working with children
  • Basic knowledge of special education practices, accommodations, and supports
  • Ability to follow and implement teacher-directed instructional strategies and interventions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to support students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs
  • Ability to build supportive and compassionate relationships with students
  • Ability to report information orally and in writing as required.
  • Prior experience working with special needs children is preferred.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing student and District needs.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, including during student activities.
