About the Position

MLC's Information Services Department serves the information needs of public library staff, legislators, state employees, and the general public through our collection of resources, reference and research assistance, and special collections. MLC is seeking a Reference and Collection Development Librarian to provide reference service to our stakeholders, assist with collection development, and support the needs of public libraries through special collections. In addition to routine reference requests, this position will serve as a primary librarian for MLC's Patent and Trademark Resource Center, which includes scheduling in-depth research consultations, collecting and submitting statistics to the USPTO, and working with groups and organizations to provide training and resources to Mississippi's inventors and entrepreneurs. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the primary librarian for MLC's Patent and Trademark Resource Center. Develop and maintain relationships with relevant agencies and organizations that support this specialized group of stakeholders. Collect and submit necessary statistics and reports to the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Work with patrons to schedule in-depth training on patent and trademark searching tools available through the USPTO and the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office. Assist with collection development. Evaluate books and materials for addition to MLC's collection using circulation and usage data, professional reviews, and in-house policies and collection development plans. Direct weeding projects, regular inventory, and shifting initiatives based on circulation and usage data and knowledge of MLC's collections. Provide excellent reference and circulation assistance to MLC's stakeholders and all Mississippians. Serve at MLC's reference desk during assigned shifts. Use print collections, databases, and web-based resources to provide excellent reference and research assistance. Support the use of our special collections by circulating materials, ensuring returned kits are whole, and maintaining statistics and usage reports.

What youll need to be Successful

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, a desire to learn, and be able to communicate effectively in person and virtually. The ability to creatively problem-solve and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are essential. Familiarity with collection development best practices, reference and research experience, and the ability to work well in teams are also necessary.
