Summary of Position

The purpose of this classification is to manage the daily operations and activities of assigned library activities and/or programs, resolve customer inquiries and complaints, assist in budget preparation and tracking, participating in special projects and system-wide initiatives, and may provide leadership for assigned staff, including creating work assignments and monitoring the completion of work.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.May provide supervision to library volunteers.
  • Performs periodic reviews of the operations and services levels of assigned area and makes recommendations to the Director.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual budget; monitors ongoing expenditures; analyzes and recommends needs for the most effective allocation of resources. Submits purchasing recommendations and prepares and maintains records, reports and statistics related to assigned area of operation.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of library policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provides efficient and courteous customer service to individuals contact in the course of work.Investigates and responds to citizen and other inquiries; takes appropriate actions to resolve customer issues.
  • Assists patrons with technology and other library resources; performs various public relations related duties; serves as an advisor to other staff, City departments, citizens, and external organizations. May serve on committees as assigned.
  • Participates in local, state or national library associations.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
  • Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
  • Develops, implements and administers any programs and services that involve circulation and computer service areas of the library.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the Librarys Integrated Library System, the Print Management System, the patron library card ID system and all other automated library services.
  • Assists patrons with resources such as reader's advisory, database searching, and assisting with set up of digital materials on personal devices.
  • Assist patrons with Makerspace equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science, Liberal Arts or related field, supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible experience or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successful perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Drivers License.
