Primary Purpose:

Assist librarian in the administration of the campus library. Perform routine clerical duties under direct supervision.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills

Ability to file books following district cataloging system

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work well with students

Experience:

One-year experience working with children preferred

One-year clerical experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Library Program Support

  • Support instruction of reading and district technology and reading initiatives based on campus needs.
  • Provide instruction and assistance in using library media center resources including digital devices, maker-space items, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and students to design and teach engaging learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking.
  • Shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment.
  • Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers.
  • Request and schedule use of materials from regional education service center or other source.
  • Prepare bulletin boards and displays and prepare instructional materials.
  • May read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.

Accounting and Inventory

  • Operate the media center automated circulation system.
  • Collect and maintain records of student fines and prepare parent notification as needed.
  • Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices.
  • Repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment or process for repair at outside facilities (e.g., bindery).
  • Perform routine maintenance on audiovisual equipment.
  • Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.

Clerical Support

  • Maintain physical and computerized files, including card catalog, vertical file materials, and publisher catalogs.
  • Prepare bibliographies, forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondence using personal computer.
  • Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

Student Management

  • Supervise students and assist teachers to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere.
  • Perform assigned student monitoring duties.

Other

  • Supervise library operation.
  • Assist with the supervision of parent volunteers and student aides.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor and/or Superintendent.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Personal computer, district mobile devices, document camera, printer, and copier.

Work with continuous interruptions. Maintain emotional control under stress. Climbing, stretching, frequent lifting of books, boxes, and technology equipment, etc.
