Seeking a dedicated Library Assistant IV to lead our Access Services during 3rd shift and extended hours. This supervisory role ensures the smooth operation of the library's public service unit during late-night hours and through the library's closing. The successful candidate will maintain high-quality customer service and uphold departmental standards.

Schedule:

  • This position follows a late-night schedule of four 10-hour shifts per week, typically Monday through Friday morning from 3:00 PM to 2:00 AM. with seasonal adjustments during the Winter and Summer months to reflect changes in library hours.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a library setting; or any comparable combination of education, supervisory training or experience, and practical experience may be considered.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise 3rd-shift activities at three service desks, the copy center, study rooms, and media equipment.
  • Train, oversee, and evaluate the performance of staff.
  • Oversee library security gates and security cameras during evening hours, monitoring building access and responding to any security-related incidents. Supervise full-time 3rd- shift staff members and student workers.
  • Oversees the closing process, ensuring all procedures are followed and the building is secure.
  • Ensure stacks are closed and secured when visitors' hours end.
  • Serve as a point of contact for patrons, providing assistance and clarifying library policies and procedures.
  • Ensure efficient workflow and quality customer service at service desks.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of library systems to manage material circulation and service delivery.
  • Support patrons in locating materials and navigating the library's digital resources.
  • Address and resolve patron account inquiries and issues.
  • Handle customer concerns with professionalism, courtesy, and poise.
  • Maintain records, compile statistics, and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Communicate any issues effectively to the department head, morning staff, and evening supervisor.
