Description

Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire a Library Circulation Assistant. This is a part-time, non-union, non-exempt, and non-benefits-eligible position.

This position is scheduled to work one, 8-hour shift per week: Monday, 12P-8P. Staff meetings usually occur on a quarterly basis and may require an additional 1-2 hours each term. Part-time library staff do not typically work during the interim periods between regular academic terms and scheduled hours will change in the Summer term to coincide with different library hours.

The primary purpose of this position is to assist library faculty and staff with the circulation and maintenance of library resources.

CCC Library supports the mission of Clackamas Community College by providing user-friendly research tools, relevant resources, customized library instruction, and welcoming, inclusive spaces for the CCC community. CCC Library is a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance Library Consortium.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Proficient in all library circulation functions. This includes but is not limited to:

Checking library materials in and out to patrons using the Integrated Library System (ILS).

Creating and updating patron records using the ILS

Creating reports using the ILS

Protecting the confidentiality of patron records

Provides customer service at the circulation desk to students, staff and community patrons. This includes but is not limited to:

Answering the phone, taking messages, monitoring email, and referring callers to appropriate resource(s)

Providing directions to other locations on campus and at branch campuses

Explaining library policies to users

Posting announcements to the public in a timely manner

Provides access support by:

Providing assistance with printing and photocopiers

Providing assistance with services and information found on the library webpage

Troubleshooting technology issues

Submitting tickets for repair or service as it relates to equipment or the facilities

Monitoring supplies levels and works with Library Services Coordinator to submit orders

Maintains the integrity of the collection. This includes but is not limited to:

Reshelving books, magazines, etc. with a high level of accuracy using Library of Congress classification

Noting the condition of library materials and referring damaged items to the Library Services Coordinator

Participating in inventory projects (e.g. shelf-reading, weeding, shifting, etc.)

Routinely works alongside federal work-study (FWS) students to:

Assist in onboarding and training incoming students

Help oversee projects and guide the work of students

Assist with creation of training and circulation processes

Including updating manuals and documentation, as needed

AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

Qualifications

MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED; strong customer service skills; good attention to detail, time management and organizational skills; reliable and dependable; able to work independently and as part of a team; able to bend, stoop and lift up to 25 pounds; knowledge of computers

Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College's culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required more than 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computers and other standard office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical library/office setting. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under general supervision of the Library Manager.
