Position Summary
Nonnewaug High School is looking for a dynamic, energized, highly organized Library Assistant to help maintain a vibrant, welcoming, and productive environment for our students. In this role you'll be a vital part of our school's daily tech and learning ecosystem.
GENERAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Circulation & Data Management: Utilize the Follett Destiny system to efficiently check books in and out process hold requests, and assist with inventory management.
Student Supervision: Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive environment in the library.
Technology Support & Chromebook Lending: Manage the daily check-out and return of student Chromebooks and chargers. Provide basic technology troubleshooting for students (e.g., Wi-Fi connectivity, login issues).
Library Promotion & Displays: Create engaging digital signage, flyers, and library displays to promote reading programs, school events, and new book arrivals.
After-School Library Management: Independently manage and supervise the library during post-school hours which provide a quiet, structured space for students.
Multi-Tasking & Organization: Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing competing priorities with a calm and positive demeanor.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong proficiency in Google Apps for Education (Google Workspace), including Docs, Sheets, Slides,and Forms. Experience with the Microsoft Suite and Canva.
Direct experience with, or a strong ability to quickly learn, the Destiny library management system and comfortable working with Chromebooks.
Student-Centric Mindset: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain a positive but firm rapport with high school students.
Reliability: High level of responsibility and independence, particularly regarding the safety of students and security of the building during after-school hours.
SALARY: $22.00 an hour/8 hours a day
WORK YEAR: 186 work days
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma required and Associate and/or Bachelor's degree preferred.
