JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Library/Media Specialist
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Required: BS or MA Degree and Library/Media Certification.
Preferred: Experience in school library/media center.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The major responsibility will be to manage the school library/media center. The duties associated with this responsibility will include the following:
- Develops a positive climate that encourages students and teachers to make optimum use of the resources of the media center.
- Selects materials based upon the curriculum, learning activities, and student interests.
- Ensures the 21st Century library media program provides current print, non-print, technology and on-line materials.
- Manages the acquisition, processing, organization, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources.
- Utilizes current technologies and an approved electronic management system for instruction, assessment and data management.
- Provides assistance in the evaluation of the library collection.
- Provides training to students, staff, and parents in the use of electronic resources.
- Selects and orders books and materials in accordance with the Selection Policy of the Mountain Brook Schools.
- Administers budget allocations and maintains accurate financial records.
- Maintains the library collection and all work areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Works cooperatively with teachers to help students develop habits of independent work and to develop skill in the use of materials in relation to planned assignments.
- Participates in personal professional development activities and organizations and demonstrates professional ethics.
- Communicates effectively with parents and colleagues.
- Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Adheres to school system and school rules, regulations and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month contract (202 days)
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies on evaluation of professional personnel.
