The School District of Brown Deer is seeking to hire a Library Media Specialist for Brown Deer Elementary School. This position will serve as a catalyst for integrating information and technology literacy stands into all curricular areas through the Library and STEM lessons.

Essential Duties

Leadership

  • Participate in district and school information and technology teams/PLCs

  • Support and promote local, state, and national standards and educational goals

  • Support teaching staff willing to experiment with integrating technology and instructional technology resources into classroom instruction

  • Foster a spirit of critical reflection relative to teaching/learning

Student Achievement and Accountability

  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy and develop library programs that support classroom learning, aligning with district standards

  • Promote and model effective use of learning resources in teaching

  • Promote a lifelong love of reading and learning

  • Support classroom reading instruction and reading for academic and personal success

  • Help students become critical users of ideas and information

Staff Development

  • Provide professional development on integrating learning tools into instruction

  • Help teachers integrate the skills found in Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards for Information and Technology Literacy and ISTE NETS-S

  • Provide training on evaluating and using information/instructional resources and learning (technology) tools

  • Promote and model integrating information and technology literacy competencies into the classroom units/lessons

  • Assist staff to become critical users of ideas and information

  • Promote and model literacy skills instruction

Systems Management

  • Organize information for maximum accessibility

  • Provide an attractive, comfortable, technologically-rich learning environment

  • Oversee the library media program, including selection, acquisition, and maintenance of library resources, ensuring a current and diverse collection.

  • Train, schedule, supervise, and assist in evaluating Library Media Support Staff

  • Create and execute programming that illuminates the various opportunities available through the library to stakeholders, including STEM & STEAM activities

  • Collaborate with the Technology Services team to integrate technology resources into library services.
