BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Principal, perform a variety of technical library duties in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance and distribution of books and instructional materials at an assigned elementary school; unpack, sort, process and distribute textbooks and instructional materials throughout the academic year; assist students and teachers in the selection, location and use of library materials and equipment; monitor inventory levels and make selections of library books, instructional materials and equipment as directed; perform general clerical work in support of the various functions of a library media center.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Library Media Technician I classification work independently and assume responsibility for the library collection, schedule and day-to-day operations of an elementary school library. Incumbents oversee textbook circulation including instructional materials throughout the academic year and perform specialized library media center functions such as classifying, cataloging, circulation, inventory, recovery of library books and related duties throughout the academic year. The Library Media Technician II position is assigned to a secondary school library and performs specialized library media center functions. Incumbents are responsible for maintaining a larger and more diverse collection of library books and instructional materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to:  graduation from high school and two years of general clerical or library experience. Some experience working with children in an educational or learning environment.
