The Pasadena Public Library seeks energetic, diligent, customer service oriented candidates who will promote a positive library experience to all users and visitors in our Citys libraries. In addition to creating a warm and welcoming library experience to all users, candidates are expected to maintain organized shelves and a clean and orderly space. We are interested in individuals that enjoy creating a customer friendly environment and who are comfortable working independently as well as with the public. Library Page positions are at-will and part-time (19 hours/week maximum). Work schedules are varied, including any combination of days, evenings, and weekends.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately shelve materials according to established library systems, alphabetize, read, perform simple arithmetic, and maintain an orderly library.
  • Provide friendly, enthusiastic customer service to a wide variety of patrons and co-workers, in person and over the telephone.
  • Perform circulation-related tasks, including check-in and check-out of materials.
  • Possess a passion for serving the community and working with people.
  • Obtain materials from the collection for patrons and staff on request.
  • Ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Support co-workers in providing excellent customer service, programs, and outreach.
  • Consistently surveys the library, keeping tables and spaces in order and tidy, straightens and shifts materials as needed.
  • Performs routine clerical duties, which may include filing and the operation of a variety of office equipment such as a computer terminal, copy machine, scanning equipment, etc.
  • Push heavy book trucks and bins.
  • Carry heavy bound volumes and equipment up and down stairs.
  • Set up rooms for programs and meetings.
  • Runs errands and distributes mail.
  • Performs other related work as necessary.

VACANCY INFORMATION

There are currently three vacancies in the Public Services Division of the Department of Libraries and Information Services. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.

Special Requirements

Library Pages work a varied, part-time schedule including Friday, Saturday, Sunday and evening hours. Some positions may require a valid Class C drivers license or alternative transportation if the job duties require work assignments between different libraries in Pasadena.

Retirement

Part-time employees pay 7.5% of earnings into an alternate plan called the Public Agency Retirement Services Alternate Retirement System Plan (PARS ARS) in lieu of Social Security.

Leave accruals

Part-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked.
