Responsibilities

DESCRIPTIONThe Library Public Services Assistant assists students, faculty, staff, and the community at the library's information services desk and online. Loans and discharges materials by following established library procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Greets and welcomes in person and online library patrons and provides information/referrals to College resources and other departments.2. Loans and discharges materials by following established library procedures.3. Collects, organizes, prepares, and shelves materials to be returned to the shelves using the Library of Congress (LC) classification system.4. Processes intra-library loan requests.5. Responds to inquiries regarding computer lab workstations and copying/printing/scanning machines. 6. Monitors and tracks the usage of the library's physical spaces.7. Processes incoming materials and prepares them for shelving.8. Assists in the selection of recreational materials, the coordination of on-campus and online library events and programs9. Participates in library shared governance team to evaluate and improve library services.10. Opens and/or closes the library operations and building.11. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.2. One year library or related customer service experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Associate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:1. Knowledge, ability, and skill to work with an alpha-numeric arrangement as used in a library setting. 2. Knowledge of basic library services, functions, and resources.3. Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to local, state, and national standards for library processes and procedures.4. Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to become proficient in MS Teams.5. Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.6. Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment.7. Ability to effectively interact with other staff, to work independently and as a team member, with attention to detail, focus, and accuracy.8. Ability to communicate and listen effectively and positively in written, verbal, face-to-face and online venues. 9. Ability to perform as part of a team committed to exemplary and proactive customer service. 10. Skilled in the operation and troubleshooting of standard office equipment.11. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor. WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:1. Works inside in an office / library environment with airborne dust and mold, common to a library setting.2. Requires the ability to push, pull book carts; bend, stoop, kneel and reach; and climb on low stool to reach six-foot high shelving; and ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted.3. Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020.
