The Libraries at CU Boulder encourage applications for two Library Services Specialist, Norlin Evening & Weekends positions! These roles provide user centered customer service and assistance at all in-person service points in Norlin Library as well as virtual services. These positions works closely with other services partners to ensure consistent service and collaborates to improve practices as needed.

Specialists supervise the Norlin services points during evening and weekend operational hours and oversees student employees during that time. These positions operate independently for significant work periods and can flexibly address complex issues within the scope of the Libraries Circulation Policy.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provide user centered customer service

  • Staffs in-person service points in Norlin library
  • Staffs Libraries-wide virtual services including chat and email
  • Serve as backup to other locations with evening and weekend services as needed
  • General patron services - circulation, printing, scanning, research assistance, materials access, (using stacks, microform machines, etc.), and appropriate referrals
  • Patron account assistance - fines, replacements, discrepancies, etc.
  • Able to assist with other library services and routine patron account needs (study rooms, reserves, etc.)
  • Position is able to resolve common customer service issues independently. Uses job knowledge to derive solutions to non-standard patron issues and problems.

Collaborate with other Section and Team Members and other services partners

  • Monitor and evaluate current services, procedures, practices, and documentation for improvements
  • Uses job knowledge to make suggestions and recommendations to improve services
  • Works closely with Libraries Security by providing support for security for library facilities
  • Stays up to date with any changes

Night and Weekend Staffing Coordinator

  • Review evening & weekend schedules at all locations for student and non-student coverage
  • Identify potential challenges with coverage and make suggestions for long-term solutions or independently solve short-term staffing needs
  • Share updates with collaborators and arrange coverage
  • Collaborate with desk managers for consistent user and staffing experience

Supervise Norlin service points and oversee student employees during weekend and evening operational hours

  • Work on-site during weekend and evening operational hours
  • Works closely with other weekend and evening service point supervisors to ensure successful scheduling and collaboration
  • Organize and maintain in-person desk
  • Provide supervision of student personnel during weekend and evening operational hours at Norlin
  • Use job knowledge to train student personnel in circulation procedures and policies
  • Works closely with Norlin circulation student supervisor to provide feedback on students and training needs
  • Work closely with Libraries Security as main services contact on weekends and evenings, as well as backup security student supervision, and backup opening and closing of library facilities as needed.

  • We are hiring for two positions: one position will have the following work schedule: Saturday-Wednesday 10am-6pm, while the second position will work Sunday-Thursday 3pm-11pm.
  • Please note that hours will adjust when building hours change, e.g., finals, summer, intersessions, holidays. Ample notice will be given ahead of these changes, and employee will continue to be scheduled for full-time hours (40 hours per week) during these periods.
  • Position modality is fully on-site.

  • The annual salary for these full-time positions is $43,000.
  • Additional Compensation Details:
  • This position is eligible for shift differential.
  • Weekend shift differential of 20% shall be paid for all hours worked when more than half of the scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend shift that starts at 4 p.m. Friday evening through 6 a.m. Monday.
  • The second shift differential of 7.5% shall be paid for all hours worked when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024

  • Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Substitution: a combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years.
  • Colorado residency required.
