Rutgers University Libraries are the intellectual center of the university-serving all members of the university community, supporting all disciplines, and playing a key role in advancing student learning and faculty research. The Libraries serve all institutions that make up Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey: Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Rutgers University-Newark, Rutgers University-Camden, and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. The Libraries have a highly valued faculty and staff of about 200, who are committed to developing innovations in access services, information literacy, and digital initiatives. Rutgers University Libraries operate with a budget of $45 million and have outstanding collections, especially in jazz and New Jerseyana. Collectively, the Libraries' holdings include more than 5 million volumes. The Libraries hold memberships in ARL, CNI, CRL, Lyrasis, NERL, VALEnj, SPARC, and the Coalition of Open Access Policy Institutions (COAPI); use Ex Libris, Alma, Primo, and OCLC as primary bibliographic utilities; and utilize a Fedora-based institutional repository.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Library Supervisor I for the Carr Library NB.

Under the general direction of the Head of New Brunswick Access Services, the Library Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations within a designated New Brunswick library branch to ensure a high standard of public and staff services. The Library Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining a welcoming, organized, and user-focused environment while supporting the library's mission and strategic goals. This includes delivery of circulation, inter/intra-library loan, and other library services to patrons.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Provides leadership to library support staff, coordinates work schedules, monitors service quality, and ensures adherence to library policies and procedures.
  • Serves on management teams that recommend policy.
  • Plans the direction of the library or service unit, and implement projects.
  • Resolves operational and patron issues and handles crises.
  • Ensures the security, functionality, and availability of buildings, equipment, and library collections.
  • Manages budgets; provides expenditure reports; statistical analysis of data; and annual, midyear, and project reports for the area of responsibility.
  • Trains and supervises professional staff.
  • Analyzes workflows and procedures and develops and revises procedure manuals.
  • Writes job descriptions and evaluates performance.
  • Oversees payroll preparation.
  • Performs additional duties that require knowledge of library science principles and practices.

FLSA Exempt Grade 05 Salary Details Minimum Salary 71447.000 Mid Range Salary 90435.000 Maximum Salary 109422.000 Offer Information

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge, understanding, and competency in library science/library operations including circulation, classification, original and copy cataloging and bibliographic systems, formats, rules, guidelines, and standards.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing supervisory and one or more library activities.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to lift/carry books and packages and push/pull carts up to 50lbs.
