Overview:
Auburn University Libraries seeks a creative, collaborative, and service-oriented candidate for the position of Library Technical Specialist at the Ralph Brown Draughon (RBD) Library. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Teaching, Learning, and Academic Engagement, the Library Technical Specialist provides essential support for the daily operations of the Research & Instruction Services Department. This position assists with the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of graduate student employees who staff the RBD Help Desk; provides exceptional frontline service to library users; supports research and instructional services; and provides administrative assistance to the RIS faculty and departmental initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent customer service abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively in a dynamic academic library environment. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support help desk operations. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the RBD Help Desk Coordinator with the daily supervision, scheduling, and support of graduate student employees.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of graduate student employees.
- Assist with ongoing assessment and feedback processes related to graduate student employee performance.
- Provide frontline assistance to library users by answering questions and supporting access to library collections, services, and resources at the RBD Help Desk.
- Deliver high-quality customer service while assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors with research and library-related inquiries.
- Maintain the RBD Help Desk, RIS office areas, and instructional spaces, including monitoring spaces, reporting technology issues, troubleshooting basic equipment concerns, and requesting supplies as needed.
- Collect, maintain, and report statistics related to information services and user interactions.
- Support department programming, outreach activities, and engagement initiatives, including Camp War Eagle Tiger Tables sessions during the summer.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the RIS Department and its faculty members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Level I:
High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience managing and processing complex data or materials, along with familiarity with basic computer applications and design concepts. An advanced degree may be considered in lieu of experience. The salary range for Specialist I is $33,400 - $46,800.
Level II:
High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of experience managing and processing complex data or materials, along with familiarity with basic computer applications and design concepts. An advanced degree may be considered in lieu of experience. The salary range for Specialist II is $37,900 - $56,900.
Substitutions Allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Desired:
- Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Experience working in an academic or public library environment.
- Experience providing research assistance or familiarity with library databases and information resources.
- Experience supervising or supporting college student employees.
